Work sheet to compare BTU cost
|
System Type |
BTU's per unit |
A Natural gas water heater will use $200-$400 worth of gas a year or $17-$33 a month depending on number of people and their habits. A Propane gas water heater will use $350-$550 worth of gas a year or $29-$45 a month depending on number of people and their habits. |
|
Propane |
91,500 BTU's per gallon |
|
|
Natural Gas |
100,000 per therm cubic foot |
|
|
Heating Oil |
138,500 BTU's per gallon |
1. Monthly or yearly cost / Price per unit = Total number of units
2. Total number of units x BTU's per unit x system efficiency = Total number of BTU's used to heat your home
3. Total number of BTU's / 100,000 BTU's = B
4. B x $.31 = monthly or yealy cost of Earthlinked DX Geothermal System operating cost
Example
$125 monthly bill using natural gas furnace that is 90% efficient. Price per therm cubic foot = $1.00
1. $125 / $1 = 125 therm cubic feet
2. 125 therm cubic feet x 100,000 BTU's per therm cubic foot x 0.90 = 11,250,000 BTU's
3. 11,250,000 BTU's / 100,000 BTU's = 112.5
4. 112.5 x $.31 = $34.88 a month
